Reflections on Age

My birthday is this weekend! Happy Birthday to me! Unfortunately, I have to spend it in a shit kicker town in the Western plains, but hopefully it will still be fun. My dad's retirement party is on Friday, so I'll be taking most of the day off to head to his town. Mom and Dad got B and I a hotel room and are taking the kids for Friday and Saturday night! Woohoo! We'll go to some microbrewery for dinner on Saturday and I hope to eat good food and drink good beer. Eeeek! I may have to have sex! Until B gets the re-vasectomy, I am absolutely freakin' TERRIFIED of getting pregnant. I swear, I would really shoot myself. I've convinced myself that Murphy's Law is going to get me and if I do it, I'm going to get pregnant. Takes all the fun out of it, I tell you!

So I'll be 37. It sounds so much older than I feel! I was afraid it would bother me, since 37 is when you may as well round up to 40, but it's not affecting me. Ever since 30 and Bitchapalooza, I've just laughed at birthdays. It just seems so ABSURD that I'm this old. Thankfully, I'm still completely immature and I don't have too many wrinkles yet. Unfortunately I do have the grey hair though (took care of that last night, GOD what a pain in the ass, one of my least favorite things to do). I've got little kids, since I started late in life, so they force me to be young.

So this weekend, have a drink and toast me! LOL!

Oh, and another fun thing I get to do tomorrow is go to a "Mother's Day Tea Party" at Miles' school. We get to do "work" with the kids and then have a tea party. Miles is so excited he almost can't stand it, and I am too! Also, good news. We're switching Montessori schools and Miles got into the room I wanted him to. He'll have 2 female and 1 male teachers. I think the latter will be great for him. He'll start in late summer after a couple of months off.

We won't have him in school in June, because of the surgery. Bleh-haven't even BEGUN to mentally deal with that yet. And we'll also skip July because we're supposed to go back to Ohio for vacation. Yeah, I know, doesn't sound too exciting, but I REALLY want to go! I haven't seen so many friends in SO long. And I want to see family too (although thankfully we get to see them a little more often). The problem is, we can't find tickets we can afford! I am NOT going to spend $300+ each on 4 tickets. It's just not an option. So I guess we're going to have to try Priceline, and if that doesn't work, I don't know what the hell we're going to do for vacation. Poop, poop, poop.

I think I'll continue to give out book recommendations. I strongly recommend "Pretty Little Dirty" by Amanda Boyden. Very intense and disturbing. As you can tell I've been into these "coming of age" in the 80s books, where the kids are into punk rock. Brings back such good memories--although the chicas in this book are pretty messed up. If you liked "The Bitch Posse," you'll like this one.
